Think before you act

Think before you act

This bedroom dormer conversion no doubt adds much needed living space to what is a small bungalow.

However, it’s sited on the front elevation overlooking the road. Not everyone is going to like the look of it. It’s not got “kerbside appeal”.

Setting aside the question of whether planning permission was obtained, or indeed would be granted nowadays, a homeowner needs to think: is my proposed “improvement” really going to add to value?

This conversion may increase floor area but its appearance will undoubtedly put off some future buyers. It may, therefore, adversely affect value. Whatever you do, do it sympathetically, that is, in keeping with the existing character of your home.
