Interestingly, the original roof timbers visible here and connected by a wooden peg at the top had to be retained when the cottage was being completely reroofed even though no one can see them (except a surveyor).
Why? Because the property is Grade 2 Listed.
As you can tell, they serve no longer serve any structural purpose.
