More on Retaining Walls

More on Retaining Walls

A classic problem with an older retaining wall. It absorbs the moisture from the ground behind it and which it is restraining.

Whilst there is currently no sign of movement, the dampness will weaken the wall over time. Such walls are prone to collapse without warning and can be very costly to repair or replace.

They should always incorporate drainage and a damp proof membrane to separate them from moist ground conditions.
